Free eye screenings for all students

28.03.2025

In March, every student at Voantsinapy School received a free eye examination, thanks to the french association EZCO and a team of volunteer ophthalmologists from France.

The screenings were carried out on-site at the school, where each student was individually assessed. Based on the results, children received follow-up care tailored to their needs – including medical treatment, prescription glasses, or, when necessary, referrals for surgery.

This was made possible through the support of EZCO, a non-profit organization founded in 2003 by Malagasy ophthalmologist Dr. Evariste Zafimehy. The association's mission is to provide free ophthalmological care to the most vulnerable populations of Antsirabe and surrounding areas. Its work is anchored in the EZCO Eye Clinic in Antsirabe, which serves as the operational hub for this ongoing commitment to health equity.

Following the passing of Dr. Zafimehy, his wife has continued to lead the organization with dedication, joined by a growing network of French specialists who donate their time and expertise to ensure the continuity of care.

The visit to Voantsinapy School was met with joy and gratitude from students, teachers, and parents alike. Compassionate, targeted healthcare can have an immense impact – especially when it reaches children in underserved communities like Voantsinapy.
